Student submissions are not stored by Grade Drafter.

The extension works in the browser between Google Workspace and the Gemini API connected with your key, with teacher review required before final grading decisions are applied.

What is stored locally?

The extension stores the teacher’s API key and operational preferences in the browser, along with local draft state needed to continue the grading workflow. The current grading instructions are delivered to a verified Grade Drafter session and used locally; they are not a copy of the student submission.

What does the Grade Drafter account service store?

Grade Drafter stores the teacher’s Google account identifier and email, licence or beta-access status, entitlement dates, verification records and basic operational usage information needed to provide and protect the service. The account service can supply the current grading instructions after verifying access, but student submissions and Gemini API keys are not sent to or stored by Grade Drafter.

What is sent to the AI provider?

Grade Drafter follows a data-minimisation approach: it sends the content needed to generate the requested draft grading or feedback. For Questions & answers this includes the mapped teacher/student response pairs; for written work and presentations it includes the relevant text or slide content and teacher criteria.

Free vs paid Gemini

Google’s current pricing page states that Free Tier content may be used to improve Google products, while Paid Tier content is not. For real student work, use API access approved under your school’s AI and data-protection arrangements.

Human oversight

Grade Drafter provides AI-assisted draft grading and feedback. AI output is not treated as the final judgement: the teacher reviews the evidence, resolves uncertainty and remains responsible for the grade and feedback that are applied or returned to students.

Google API Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
